Hi, I'm Ningjing (Natalie) Zhang, Ph.D.
Ningjing (Natalie) Zhang knows what it means to start over in a new country — because she has lived it.
Originally from Shanghai, China, Natalie arrived in Kingston, Ontario in 2016 as a newcomer herself. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Ph.D. from Fudan University, and a Master of Arts and Juris Doctor from Queen’s University, where she was a fully-funded scholar. Her academic journey took her to Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, National Tsing Hua University, and beyond. She has published in top peer-reviewed journals and lectured for programs at UCLA and Pepperdine University.
But it is her lived experience as a newcomer — and one of the very few refugee-turned-lawyers in Canada — that defines the heart of her legal practice. Natalie founded BridgePoint Law Professional Corporation to be the firm she wished had existed when she needed help navigating an unfamiliar system.
Today, Natalie practises business immigration and refugee litigation. She is recognized as the only lawyer accepting Legal Aid certificates for refugee law in the corridor between Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto — ensuring that the most vulnerable newcomers are never left without representation simply because they cannot afford it. For Natalie, this is not a business decision. It is a calling.
A recipient of the 2021 Women’s Law Association of Ontario (WLAO) Aird & Berlis Equality Award, Natalie is deeply committed to access to justice and the advancement of equity in the legal profession. She serves on the Ontario Bar Association (OBA) Immigration Law Section Executive, the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) Sole and Small General Practice (SSGP) Section Executive, and the American Bar Association (ABA) Liaison Committee.
BridgePoint Law is based in Kingston, with offices in Toronto and Shanghai, China — a reflection of the communities Natalie serves and the bridges she builds every day.
In 2026, Natalie received the Kingston Newcomer Entrepreneur Award — Inspirational Newcomer Award, jointly presented by Kingston Economic Development Corporation and the Kingston Immigration Partnership. She is the first person of Chinese descent to be recognized with this honour.
When she is not practising law, Natalie enjoys hiking the trails of the Frontenac region with her children and their adopted dog Wonzy, watching One Piece with her kids or on her own, and reading C.S. Lewis and science fiction.
