French Category Overview
IRCC introduced category-based draws targeting French-speaking applicants in 2023. Significantly lower CRS cutoffs than general draws.
Eligibility
- Eligible Express Entry profile (FSW, CEC, FST)
- CLB 7+ in all 4 French language skills (TEF/TCF Canada)
- English not required (but adds CRS points if also CLB 7+)
- NOC TEER 0/1/2/3 work experience
CRS Cutoffs (2024-2026)
- French category: 450-480 typical
- Compare general draws 470-540
- French + healthcare combined: even lower cutoffs
French Test Options
- TEF Canada (Test devaluation de francais)
- TCF Canada (Test de connaissance du francais)
- Both equally accepted by IRCC

- French CLB 7+ requires 12-24 months intensive preparation
- Alliance Francaise classes, online tutoring
- TEF/TCF practice exams
- Combine with healthcare/STEM background for double-category access
