What Is a Notary Public in Ontario?
A notary public is a public officer authorized under Ontario’s Notaries Act to administer oaths and affirmations, certify true copies, witness signatures on legal documents, and authenticate documents for use in Canada and abroad. In Ontario, every practising lawyer is automatically a notary public — no separate appointment required. That means notarizations completed by Natalie carry the full weight of legal verification, with no extra step needed for cross-border use.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an appointment for notary services?
No — walk-ins are welcome at both Toronto and Kingston offices during regular business hours for most standard notarizations. For complex documents like multi-page statutory declarations or Apostille processing, calling ahead helps us prepare. Same-day urgent walk-in service is available for a $30 + HST surcharge per document.
How long does a notarization take?
A standard single-document notarization typically takes 10–15 minutes from arrival to completion. Multi-document visits and statutory declarations that need drafting may take 20–40 minutes. Hague Apostille processing requires a separate 7–10 business-day courier turnaround after the initial notarization.
Is a lawyer-notary the same as a regular notary public?
In Ontario, every practising lawyer is automatically a notary public — but not every notary public is a lawyer. A lawyer-notary can draft, advise on, and notarize the same document in one visit, and their notarization is universally accepted for cross-border use.
Can you notarize documents in Chinese?
Yes — we offer full bilingual English / Chinese (Mandarin and Simplified Chinese) notary service. Natalie is a native Mandarin speaker and reviews Chinese-language documents directly. We also provide certified Chinese–English translation paired with notarization at $125–$200 per page.
What is the difference between notarization and Apostille?
Notarization verifies the authenticity of a signature, oath, or document copy under provincial authority. An Apostille is an additional certificate issued by a designated government authority (Global Affairs Canada or Ontario ODS) that authenticates the notary’s signature for use in any of the 126 Hague Convention countries. If your document is going abroad, you typically need both.
