Joining the OBA Executive Council: A New Chapter of Service at the Ontario Bar Association

I am excited to share that I have been appointed as an Executive Council Member at the Ontario Bar Association, serving across three sections:

  • Young Lawyers Division — East Region
  • Immigration Law Section
  • Sole, Small Firm & General Practice Section

First Council Conference in Niagara Falls

From September 12–14, 2025, I attended my first OBA Council Conference in Niagara Falls. It was a full three days of connection, substantive discussion, and celebration of our profession — from engaging strategy sessions to scenic views of the Falls (and, yes, a memorable karaoke night).

What I Hope to Contribute

Serving on three sections gives me a rare vantage point — covering immigration practice, regional issues facing lawyers east of Toronto, and the day-to-day realities of sole and small firm practice. These three areas intersect constantly in the work I do, and I am looking forward to contributing:

  • Policy input on immigration and refugee practice;
  • Practical resources for sole and small firm lawyers (including on AI, cybersecurity, and business operations);
  • Regional representation for the East — from Kingston out to the Ottawa Valley.

Grateful to the OBA, to the mentors who encouraged me to step into this service, and to the extraordinary council colleagues I am now privileged to work alongside. More to come.
